Winter storm for Tonight-Thursday

A storm system is developing that is likely to impact the Northland tonight through Thursday.

Freezing rain/drizzle and snow is expected to develop tonight along and north of the Iron Range.

Accumulating snow will move in for Wednesday and Wednesday evening.

As the snow moves out, much colder air will move into the area along with increasing northwest winds to produce dangerous wind chills Wednesday night.

Lake Effect snow is expected to continue through Wednesday night into Thursday.

Uncertainty in forecast snowfall amounts remains dependent on the storm track and may change as more information becomes available.

Accumulating snow will spread into the area from northwest to southeast on Wednesday. Chances for significant accumulating snow are increasing, with 4 or more inches likely for a large portion of the Northland. The highest amounts are expected for the Arrowhead and parts of northwest Wisconsin.

Increasing northwest winds during the afternoon and evening may produce blowing and drifting of the snow, mainly for the Brainerd Lakes region and around Leech Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish.
