Severe thunderstorms are expected Monday evening, July 26, in northeastern Minnesota, including all of Cass and Crow Wing counties.

The greatest threat moved later than initially forecast, to 7-9 p.m. in the Brainerd lakes area, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.

There's an enhanced risk for numerous severe thunderstorms with large hail - up to baseball size hail is possible - damaging winds up to 70 mph and isolated tornadoes along with localized flash flooding, the NWS said in an emailed release.

The greatest threat overall is from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. with storms starting in northeast Minnesota in the late afternoon/evening and tracking southeast across western Lake Superior and northwest Wisconsin Monday evening into the night.

The NWS said residents should be prepared for multiple rounds of storms.

The NWS encourages people to have multiple ways to get weather warnings and to seek shelter immediately when warnings are issued for their location.
