Pequot Lakes Patriot Boys Defeat Crosby-Ironton

Pequot Lakes 72, Crosby-Ironton 60 Key: Jordan Schommer scored 28 points Overall: CI 23-5, PL 22-6 Next: Pequot Lakes vs. Greenway in Section 7-2A Semifinals at University of Minnesota, Duluth 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 CROSBY -- Big players show up in big spots and Monday, March 11, Jordan Schommer added his name to that list. The 6-foot senior guard did what few others have ever been able to do -- he shot the Crosby-Ironton Rangers out of their trademark zone defense and then led the No. 3-seeded Pequot Lakes Patriots to a 72-60 Section 7-2A Quarterfinals victory over No. 2 C-I. Schommer, who’s been on a scoring spree, did it with the 3 and with dribble penetration causing fits for the Rangers’ defense. “I think the biggest thing, I felt pretty good there in the second half when (C-I head coach) Dave (Galovich) went man,” Pequot head coach Rich Spiczka said. “He doesn’t do that very often so I felt like we were doing some good things to make them go there. “The biggest thing is we like our quickness no matter who we’re playing against. We’ll struggle with these guys on the inside, but we felt on the outside we had the advantage.”
