DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A shell casing, footprints and a cigarette butt found several hundred yards from the body of a former Lake Park, Minn., police chief on Nov. 10 in rural Becker County led officials to the man now charged with manslaughter. Morris Silas Dodd Jr., 54, of Ogema, Minn., is charged with one count of felony second-degree manslaughter and one felony count of a felon illegally possessing a firearm, according to documents filed in Becker County District Court. Becker County officials previously identified the victim as Jay Clayton Nelson.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Authorities are asking for the public's assistance in an investigation into the apparent hunting-related death of Jay Clayton Nelson, the Becker County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Nelson, former police chief in Lake Park, Minn., was found dead Saturday, Nov. 10, near Little Flat Lake on the White Earth Reservation in Becker County, Minn. Little Flat Lake is located about 15 miles southeast of White Earth, Minn.
FARGO — A little over a year has passed since William Hoehn was arrested in connection with the death of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind. On Tuesday, Sept. 18, Hoehn will stand trial on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, one of several crimes Hoehn was charged with in August of 2017 along with his former girlfriend, Brooke Crews. Hoehn and Crews lived in the same north Fargo apartment building where LaFontaine-Greywind lived at the time she disappeared on Aug. 19, 2017.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A 47-year-old woman arrested over the weekend at a restaurant here spit on two police officers and suffered an injury to her eye as one of them restrained her, authorities said. Jennifer Joan Thomas, of Fargo, appeared in Clay County District Court on Tuesday, Sept. 11, facing two felony charges: fourth-degree assault on a peace officer and threats of violence. She's also charged with a gross misdemeanor count of carrying a BB gun in a public place.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Human remains found at a Clay County farmstead last week were confirmed to be those of a missing person in connection with a murder case, according to a Clay County Sheriff's Office news release. The remains found in Hitterdal were identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul on June 26, as belonging to Troy Edmond Yarbrough, who was reported missing out of Wahpeton, N.D., police said.
