The plane is partially submerged in the St. Louis River and responders are looking for any survivors, St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay said in a tweet.
Flight tracking data indicates it crashed into the house shortly after taking off from Duluth International Airport late Saturday night.
The plane took out much of the second floor of the home at 5154 Arrowhead Road.
Radar tracks put Michael Bratlie, an experienced military and commercial pilot, just past Two Harbors, Minnesota, in his two-engine plane. There the flight path ended, drawing exhaustive searches of Lake Superior and the thick woods and rugged terrain on shore.
