Pastor Kari Williamson, of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, gives ashes to parishioner Karen Yundak in Nisswa Square on Ash Wednesday, March 1. Many churches across the country have started venturing out to give ashes in recent years, so the Nisswa church decided to try it here. Williamson said it could be convenient for those who can't attend an Ash Wednesday service.
