CO Joyce Kuske (Little Falls) Many fish houses were still found to not be displaying shelter licenses and not having proper identification on the house. Two fish houses that were found without identification had previously been warned last winter for the offense are now wishing they would have gotten ID on their houses.

CO Caleb Silgjord (Sauk Centre) investigated a littering complaint after receiving a report that anglers had left many items on an area lake including plastic bottles, food containers, wantonly wasted fish, fish carcasses and plastic bags containing excrement. The investigation resulted in enforcement action for unlawful deposit of garbage, wanton waste of game fish and ice shelter violations. MN DNR Photo

District 12 - Princeton area: Conservation Officer (CO) Mike Krauel (Mora) was part of a site visit on a new piece of a Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and followed up on WMA parking area complaints. While parked at one WMA, Krauel observed two individuals pull up in a car and park near him. Several minutes later, Krauel observed smoke and the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Researchers with the DNR are monitoring about 30 radio-collared black bears across the state, especially in zones 27, 25 and 45, and in parts of the no-quota zone. Most of them are in or near the Chippewa National Forest between Grand Rapids and Bigfork. Others are farther north, near Orr or Voyageurs National Park. Some collared bears are also around Camp Ripley, and in northwestern Minnesota, especially near Thief Lake Wildlife Management Area and Plummer. MnDNR photo.
