The Class 2A’s eighth-ranked Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew wrestling team continued it’s admirable success with four more victories last week to improve to 19-3 overall.

The Road Crew now has 46 wins over the past two seasons after setting a single-season team victory record with a 27-7 mark last year.

“We have a really special team,” Road Crew coach Travis Hoffarth said. “They work extremely hard for each other and that has led to a lot of success.”

“We started out with two convincing wins against Mille Lacs and Cloquet to get the week started,” Hoffarth said. “We then arrived in Mora extremely focused. Mora has a good team, but we jumped out to a 21-0 lead. That forced them to make a few lineup moves, and slide kids around. We responded, and had some kids really stepup to eliminate any momentum they tried to gain.”

Against Mora and Albany, the Road Crew’s Parker Zutter and Easton Miller each recorded two pins while Owen Carlson, Connor Tulenchik and Corbin Knapp won both of their matches.

“Albany has a lot of quality kids in their line up and have had a tough schedule this season, so we were sure not to overlook them,” Hoffarth said. “Our kids have done a great job of approaching each match as the same. At the same time they understand that this is all just practice and our ultimate goal is to be peaking as we enter the section tournament.

“We have a lot of challenging matches in the final two weeks of the season. Those matches will only help sharpen us. Until then we keep climbing the mountain.”

The Road Crew are scheduled to compete at the Detroit Lakes Triangular Thursday, Feb. 25, and then at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Friday, Feb. 26.
