Winter sports season begins

Area basketball, hockey, wrestling and dance teams have begun practicing - in some cases, competing - as the winter sports season officially begins.

Area basketball, hockey, wrestling and dance teams have begun practicing - in some cases, competing - as the winter sports season officially begins.

Competitively, the season began with the Northern Lakes Lightning girls hockey team defeating Northern Tier on Thursday, Nov. 11.

New this year is a co-op dance team, combining Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus. They begin the season with a home meet on Friday, Nov. 19.

Patriot and Tiger basketball teams, as well as the Road Crew wrestling team, have begun practicing and will start competing in the coming weeks.
