An experienced Pequot Lakes Patriots volleyball team is hoping to build on its 19-10 overall record from last season.
Last fall, the season ended in the Section 8-2A semifinals when the Patriots lost to top-seed Park Rapids. Many of Pequot Lakes’ regulars are back this year, including seniors Greta Harmala, Mariah Rickard, Mirjana Ganley and Maddy Morrison, plus Ashley Foster, who was injured last year.
“The girls are working hard to build on last year's success,” said Christine Ganley, who is starting her third year as the Patriots’ varsity coach. “The seniors are great young women, who will lead in a positive way. And with most of our players having varsity experience, it should mean good things for this season. We also gained some great young players coming up in the ranks that will add a lot of energy and power.”
Juniors include: Kate Bolz-Andolshek, Lydia Hubbard, Phoebe Glenn, Rita Ganley, Ella Pfeiffer and Catherine Ganley. Freshmen Maci Martini should also contribute on varsity.
Last year, Pequot Lakes finished second behind Park Rapids in the Mid-State Conference.
Assisting Ganley, who has a total of 14 years of volleyball coaching experience at various levels, are Jenna Anderson, Maddy Stall and Alexis Melby.
