Volleyball: Tigers top W-H-A in season finale - Semmler nets 1,000th career kill

Alyssa Semmler recorded her 1,000th career kill and finished with 11 kills and six blocks for the Pine River-Backus Tigers in a 3-0 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in a Northland Conference match Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Alyssa Semmler recorded her 1,000th career kill and finished with 11 kills and six blocks for the Pine River-Backus Tigers in a 3-0 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in a Northland Conference match Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Class 1A's sixth-ranked Tigers were coming off only their second loss of the season as they fell to Brainerd in the championship match of the Big Axe Tournament Oct. 13.

Rylie Hirschey had 29 set assists and six digs for the Tigers, while Bailey Wynn had nine kills and Gabby Rainwater had eight.

Emma Barchus led the team with seven digs.

The Tigers finish the regular season with an overall record of 25-2 and a conference record of 7-0. They will face the winner of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Betha-Hewitt at home on Friday, Oct. 26.
