The volleyball teams of Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus met twice during the week, with the Highway 371 rivals exchanging victories.
The first came in the form of a close five-game victory for the Patriots at home on Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Patriots won the first two games by scores of 25-20 and 25-15 before the Tigers came back to post wins of 25-20 and 26-24 to send the game to a fifth and deciding game, which the Patriots won 15-10 on a kill by Karli Skog and three ace serves by Britt Kratochvil.
"It was a battle all night long," Patriots coach Chris Ganley said.
Clare Ganley had 16 kills and 14 digs for the Patriots and Kratochvil added 14 kills and 15 digs. Karli Skog had 23 set assists, eight kills and 19 digs.

Alyssa Semmler led the Tigers with 22 kills and 10 blocks. Bailey Wynn had 11 kills, 21 digs and four ace serves, while Gabby Rainwater had eight kills, 24 digs and four blocks.

PR-B 2nd, Patriots 3rd at weekend tournament
The teams' second matchup came in a semifinal match at the Pequot Lakes Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9, with the Tigers winning 2-0 in a best-of-three game.
The Tigers won by scores of 26-24 and 25-22 to move to the championship game, where they fell to Pierz 2-1 (25-23, 25-19, 15-13).
In pool play, the Tigers won two games against Onamia and split games with Menahga en route to the semifinals.

The Patriots swept both Melrose and Parkers Prairie to advance to their matchup with the Tigers. After that game, the Patriots defeated Sebeka by scores of 25-15 and 25-14 to secure third place in the tournament.
Clare Ganley led the team with 23 kills, 33 digs and six ace serves.

Patriots sweep Little Falls
In an away game on Tuesday, Sept. 5, Clare Ganley and Addie Hubbard each had seven kills as the Patriots blanked the Little Falls Flyers by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.
Britt Kratochvil had six kills and 13 digs.
"I thought we really played well against a team that is a lot taller than we are," coach Ganley said.
