Volleyball: Pequot Lakes gets sweep of Pillager

The Patriots got their week off to a good start with an easy 3-0 sweep against the Pillager Huskies Monday, Oct. 11.

The sweep against Pillager moved Pequot Lakes' record to 15-2 with the two losses coming in the Class 2A showcase tournament a few weekends ago.

The Patriots put the pedal on the Huskies early and jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first set. Pequot Lakes would win Set One 25-6.

Maci Martini led Pequot Lakes with 15 kills.

In Set Two, Pillager got out to a 2-0 lead before Pequot Lakes responded with a 9-0 run. The Patriots would go on to win Set Two 25-13.

The sweep was complete with Pequot Lakes winning the third set 25-8.

Abi Martin registered 35 set assists and Camille Haman and Grace Hoffard each recorded six kills for the Patriots in the win.

Pequot Lakes is projected to be the No. 2 seed in the Section 6-2A playoffs according to QRF. The Patriots will play projected top seed Sauk Centre next Monday, Oct. 18. Sauk Centre currently holds a 23-1 record and is riding a 22-game winning streak. They are also ranked 10th in Class 2A.

Martin posted 33 set assists, 10 digs and an ace for the Pequot Lakes Patriots as they defeated the Detroit Lakes Lakers 3-0 to win the Mid-State Conference championship Thursday, Oct. 7.

Martini totaled 17 kills, seven digs, three aces and a block. Ella Kratochvil added 11 kills, seven digs and a block for the Patriots who swept the conference for a 5-0 record.
