Lydia Hubbard had 15 kills as the top-ranked Pequot Lakes volleyball team defeated the No. 8 Pierz Pioneers 3-0 in South Subsection 8-2A Quarterfinal Wednesday, Oct. 23.
“I think we played well at times,” Coach Chris Ganley said. “I think at times, we weren’t going all out on some of our defensive plays that we normally go all out on. Pierz did a good job - they have improved since we’ve seen them last, and they had more shots to fire at us. I think we probably needed to read those better.”
Kate Bolz-Andolshek had 13 kills for the Patriots, while Mariah Rickard had 19 set assists and Maci Martini had seven kills.
The Patriots advance to the Subsection 8-2A semifinals game against the No. 4 seeded Little Falls Flyers on Friday, Oct. 25.
“They have at least one big hitter … and the rest of their players are really scrappy,” Ganley said. “This next game is going to be completely different.”
