Track and Field: Patriot girls first, boys second in Pierz
Pequot Lakes won the girls team title at the Pierz Early Bird meet Friday, April 5, with two wins from Lydia Hubbard in the 400-meter dash and high jump.
The Patriot boys finished second in the five-team meet, with victories by Max Johnston in the 400-meter dash and the 4x100 relay team of Bode Magnuson,Joe Keiffer, Vinny Sposito and Carter Sjoblad.
"Our team had the chance with this spring's weather to get outside and perform on a 40-meter track for the first time," boys coach Dave Guenther said. "Overall, some nice performances with cooler weather ... We have some work to do in some areas, but time and practice will get us to where we can be in terms of full potential. It's just nice to be outside with some of the local schools in the area to see what they have also."
The girls also picked up a win from Calia Chaney, who finished the 1600-meter race in 5:45.54, and by the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.
Sydnie Wgeishofski also earned a win in the triple jump, with a distance of 31 feet, 4 inches.

Patriot girls 5th in Bemidji
The Patriot girls led all local teams at the Little Amik meet at Bemidji State University on Tuesday, April 2, finishing fifth overall.
The girls were led by Calia Chaney in the 800-meter race, Wgeishofski in the triple jump and the 4x400 relay team, all of whom finished second. The team also saw third-place finishes from Carley Chaney in the 1600-meter race, Ellie Flaws in the 3200-meter race and Joselyn Rinio in the pole vault.
The PR-B girls finished 13th as a team at the meet, while the boys finished 15th. The girls' top finish came from junior Sidney Lodge, who took first in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet. She also finished ninth in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:08.33The team's 4x800 relay team finished third overall and senior Anna Downie took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.08.
The boys were led by a first-place finish from senior Nate Wosmek, who finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.78 seconds. Kyosuke Marcum finished fourth in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 36 feet, 10.5 inches.
The Patriot boys finished 16th at the meet, led by Dawsin Ackerman's sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter race. Jesse Clausen finished just 0.1 seconds behind him for seventh place.
