Cruz Megazzini won the 400-meter dash, high jump and triple jump titles to help the Pequot Lakes Patriots win the Mid-State Conference boys’ track and field title in a five-team meet Thursday, May 13, at Crosby-Ironton.
“When you have good competition, it makes us compete at a higher level and pushes us,” coach Dave Guenther said. “I’m very proud of what these guys accomplished. The last time we won the conference was in 2010.”
The Patriots’ Charles Schiessl won the 110 hurdles, Logan Hill was first for the 300 hurdles, and Garrett Griffin took the shot put title. Pequot Lakes’ 4x400 relay of Caleb Davis, Vinny Sposito, Isaak Geroy and Megazzini also triumphed.
“The guys have been working hard at practice and the results are showing up in the performances they are turning in,” Guenther said. “Most of the guys turned in personal-best results in all of the events they were entered in, which is a good indicator of how the season should continue, barring any injuries.”
Pequot Lakes is scheduled to host a multi-team meet on Thursday, May 27.
