The Patriots’ strong start continued Thursday, April 27, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished first at the Park Rapids Invitational.
“We had another great day, with the sun coming out and the group ready after a long week of rain and snow for practice outside,” boys’ coach Dave Guenther said. “The guys and gals had a lot of personal records”
Jocelyn Rinio took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.87 seconds and Calia Chaney topped the 800-meter run with a 2-minute, 23.91 second time. Chaney was also first in the 1600-meter run and Rinio took first in the pole vault with a height of 8’6”.
Lydia Hubbard claimed the top spot in the high jump with a 5’4” jump and Sydnie Wgeishofski was first in the triple jump with a 31’4.5” jump.
The girls’ 4x100 relay team also finished first.

For the Patriot boys, Cruz Megazzini was the top finisher in the 400-meter dash with a time or 52.12 seconds, and Ethan Johnson was first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:37.63.
Megazzini was also the top finisher in the high jump with a height of 6 feet and in the triple jump with a distance of 39’11.5”.
“Cruz moved to an open 400 and did not disappoint anyone,” Guenther said. “He also (had personal bests) in the high jump … Many of the guys are really seeing improvement in their events. They are excited as they work hard in practice and the weight room and the results are showing up.”
The 4x400 relay team of Megazzini, Isaac Geroy, Vinnie Sposito and Caleb Davis also finished first.
