Carly Chaney won the 800- and 1600-meter runs to lead the Pequot Lakes Patriots girls team to a first-place finish Tuesday, April 20, at the Pequot Lakes Invite.

The Patriot boys teams also finished first behind Charles Schiessl’s first-place finish in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

“It was a cold night for a meet, but this hardy group ran faster to stay warm than anything,” boys coach Dave Guenther said in an email. “It was nice to see the performances as good as they were considering the cold weather. I am really impressed with the leadership of this group of seniors - Ethan Johnson, Bryce Fabian, Caleb Davis, Isaac Geroy and Logan Hill, and our throwers Garrett Griffin, Tyler Hidde, Alex Hannahs, Landon Roy and Dray Turner.”

Pequot Lakes also got top finishes from Lydia Hubbard and Ella Kratochvil who went first and second in the high jump respectively. Pequot’s Riya Johnston won the 100 dash.

Davis won the 400 dash followed by Jesse Clausen in second. Geroy won the 800 run, Johnson captured the 1600 run, Eli Hall won the 3200 run and Cruz Megazinni won the triple and high jumps and Griffin collected a first in the shot put and Lucas Ganley won the discus.

“Once we get a few other guys back on the track for us like Dawsin Ackerman and Logan Haberman, we are really going to start to see more contributing to the program. It's early in the season and things are looking promising with this group of hard-working athletes.”

The Pine River-Backus boys and girls each finished fourth, with Kyosuke Marcum finishing third for the boys in the 100-meter dash, second in the high jump and third in the triple jump.

Nathan Nations took second in the 3200-meter run, and Finnegan O’Dell finished third in the pole vault.
