Emmet Anderson, Charles Schiessl and Garett Griffin all won multiple events to help the Pequot Lakes Patriots win its three-team invitational track and field meet Thursday, May 6.

“Overall, the night went well,” boys coach Dave Guenther said. “We let the guys try a few different events to see how they could do in them, and a couple guys are dealing with the typical injuries, but hopefully we are keeping them in check.”

Schiessel won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, Griffin captured the shot put and discus and Caleb Davis won the 400 dash and long jump as the Pequot Lakes team finished first ahead of Staples-Motley and Detroit Lakes. The Patriots also won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays while Bryce Fabian captured the pole vault and Cruz Megazzini won the triple jump.

“Our throwing crew in the discus and the shot put have been having a great year,” Guenther said. “It is just a great bunch of guys having fun out there, and really doing an impressive job.”

In the girls' competition, Calia Chaney finished first in the 800 and 1600 meter run to help Pequot Lakes place second behind Staples-Motley. The Patriots’ Joselyn Rinio and Ella Kratochvil took the top spot in the pole vault and long jump.

“One thing about this team is we have depth,” Guenther said “If we need a replacement, someone is always willing to step up for that competitor. It's so nice to see these teammates jump in.”

The Patriot girls were scheduled to compete in the Mid-State Conference meet Tuesday, May 11, while the Pequot Lakes boys are scheduled to be at the conference meet Thursday, May 13, at Crosby-Ironton. Both teams will compete at Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, May 18.
