Pequot Lakes freshman Calia Chaney competed in the mile at the Nike Outdoor Invitational at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, on Wednesday, June 30.
Chaney finished sixth, earning a spot on the podium next to some of the fastest freshman girls in the nation, even after getting tripped and falling.
With the top-six finish, she earned freshman “All-American” honors. She ran the mile - slightly longer than the 1,600 meters she is used to when running for the Patriots, in 5 minutes, 1 second.
