The Pine River-Backus Tigers boys basketball season came to an end on Thursday, March 9, in a 75-73 loss to the McGregor Mercuries in the North Subsection 5A quarterfinals.
The Tigers outscored the Mercuries 48-44 in the second half, but it was not enough as the team committed 15 turnovers and pulled down 11 fewer rebounds than their opponents.
Nick Ackerman led the Tigers with 18 points, four rebounds and three steals while Nate Brasel scored 14 points for a Tiger team that made 88 percent of its free throws.
Torry Hirschey had 13 points and six assist, while Kiel Struss scored 11.
