Tigers claim conference crown

Allison Anderson and Annie Semmler both hit home runs as the Pine River-Backus Tigers split with the Nevis Tigers 8-3 and 10-12 to take the conference championship on Tuesday, May 10.

Allison Anderson and Annie Semmler both hit home runs as the Pine River-Backus Tigers split with the Nevis Tigers 8-3 and 10-12 to take the conference championship on Tuesday, May 10. 

The Tigers had 10 hits in the first game to aid pitcher Miah Hansen, who pitched seven innings, struck out four, and gave up three hits to win 8-3. Allison Anderson went 3-4 including the home run and Lindsey Tulenchik went 2-3 with two RBIs. 

In the second game the Tigers were up 7-3 going into the bottom of the fourth when they gave up eight runs on five errors and three hits, including a grand slam by Nevis’ Megan Edelman. The Tigers gave Nevis just one more run in the bottom of the sixth and managed a three run comeback in the top of the seventh, but lost 12-10. 

Annie Semmler led the Tigers at bat going 2-3 including a homerun and two RBIs, and Alexus Reddick and Tulenchik both went 2-4 with doubles and three RBIs.

Tigers 9, Braves 2

Miah Hansen struck out nine batters and allowed just four hits as the Tigers easily handled the Menahga Braves 9-2, on Thursday, May 12, to make their overall record 11-6. 

Brandi McAllister went 3-3 at bat for the Tigers, Allison Anderson went 3-4 with three RBIs, and Annie Semmler and Tulenchik both went 2-3 with RBIs. The Tigers are next scheduled to play a conference championship game against the Blackduck Drakes Thursday, May 19.
