The Pequot Lakes tennis team jumped out to an eight-match winning streak as the Patriots swept Forest Lake, Virginia and Hibbing on Monday, Aug. 23.

“We played well against a strong Virginia team,” head coach Monica Sergent said. “Consistent groundstrokes helped us sweep the singles matches.”

Pequot Lakes’ four singles competitors - Megan Muller, Carly Chaney, Quinn Trottier and Riley Fogarty - all swept their matches in the quad. Muller, Chaney and Fogarty are undefeated on the season so far.

Pequot sweep home meet

Muller, Chaney and Fogarty all went 3-0 in their singles matches to help Pequot Lakes sweep a quadrangular Friday, Aug. 20.

Pequot defeated Osakis 6-1, Thief River Falls 5-2 and Hill-Murray 6-1.

“This match was probably our toughest overall match so far this season,” Sergent said.

The No. 2 doubles team of Payton Mudgett-Allyson Yahn also finished 3-0.

Patriots blank C-I, Duluth Marshall

Pequot Lakes swept both matches 7-0 against Duluth Marshall and Crosby-Ironton in a triangular Thursday, Aug. 19, in Crosby.

“I was proud of the 100-percent effort shown by the entire team throughout their second matches of the day in the extreme heat,” Sergent said. “The one doubles team of Kelbee Lampi and Lexi Peterson persevered through a three-set marathon match to claim their victory. Jordan Gartner earned her first varsity win with partner Ellie Ouradnik at No. 3 doubles.”

Megan Muller went 2-0 at No. 1 singles for the Patriots as well as Kelbee Lampi and Lexi Peterson at No. 1 doubles.

“The team played with great composure for their first match of the season,” Sergent said.
