Megan Muller went 2-0 at No. 1 singles as the Patriots swept the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder and the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters 7-0 at the LP-GE Triangular on Monday, Sept. 10.

Also going 2-0 for the Patriots were Madeline Pluimer at No. 3 singles and Riley Fogarty-Madelyn Lungren at No. 3 doubles, marking the first two wins of Lungren's varsity career.

"We mixed our lineup around a little, which made it fun for the girls," coach Monica Sergent said. "Due to season match limits, I had some players sit out matches."

PL second at Moose Tournament

The Patriots' singles athletes all finished the day with winning records, but the team finished second at the Moose Tournament at Brainerd High School on Saturday, Sept. 8, finishing behind Brainerd.

Courtney Boller and Madeline Pluimer went 4-0 at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, claiming the singles titles.

"I could not have been more proud of how every single girl played on Saturday," Sergent said. "They all gave their best effort every match. We faced tough competition; four matches in one day is grueling. We all feel that we came out of the day tired but playing even better tennis than when we went into the day. The girls had a lot of fun. That's what it's all about after all."

For the season, Pequot Lakes' Aston Crocker-Morgan Lueck have a 19-1 record in doubles, Courtney Boller is 19-1 in singles, Madeline Pluimer 18-2 and Megan Muller 17-2.

Patriots 7, Glencoe-SL 0

The Patriots doubles team of Afton Crocker and Morgan Lueck improved to 16-0 following Pequot Lakes' 7-0 victory over the Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers Friday, Sept. 7.

Carly Chaney earned her first varsity win in doubles, playing with Erin Bengtson who was coming off an injury.

"This was a fun match because it was on a Friday night," Sergent said. "We had a home football game, so there were a lot of extra fans at our match in addition to our regular ones. The players really enjoyed that.

"You never would have known it was Carly's first varsity match. She played with confidence and had great ground strokes and volleys."

Pequot's four singles players lost just two games while finishing their matches in straight sets.
