Tennis: Patriots statebound

Alexa Fyle and Elli Saxerud earned a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles to secure Pequot Lakes’ placement in the Class 1A State Tournament after a 4-3 victory over Virginia in the Section 7-1A Finals on Monday, Oct. 14.

Fyle and Saxerud won the first set 7-6 with A 7-5 tiebreaker. After dropping the second set, the two rebounded for a 6-4 victory in the third set.

Pequot also scored wins from Megan Muller and Carly Chaney in singles play and the team of Morgan Lueck and Quinn Trottier in doubles.

The South’s No. 1 seeded Patriots opened the section tournament with a 6-1 victory over Eveleth-Gilbert, where Courtney Boller dominated her No. 2 singles match for a 6-0, 6-0 win. Chaney posted the same score in her win at No. 4 singles.
