Junior Megan Muller did not give up a point at No. 1 singles as the Patriot tennis team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 7-0 win over Perham/New York Mills on Friday, Sept. 18.
“This match was much more competitive at most positions than the overall team score reflected,” Head Coach Monica Sergent said. “Perham has a solid program and it shows.”
Carly Chaney, Riley Fogarty and Quinn Trottier also picked up singles victories for a Patriot team that has won five consecutive Mid-State Conference matchups.
The No. 3 doubles team of Allyson Yahn and Kelsi Martini battled out of a 5-2 deficit in the second set to win 7-6.
“The work ethic these girls have is starting to really pay off,” Sergent said. We are seeing huge growth and improvement from all of the varsity and JV players as well as great team chemistry.”

Trottier went 6-0, 6-0 to win her No. 4 singles match for the Patriots as they defeated the Staple-Motley Cardinals 5-2 in a Mid-State Conference matchup Tuesday, Sept. 15.
“This was probably our toughest competition so far this year, and it was a fun match,” Sergent said. “Our singles players dominated at each position and played strong with very consistent groundstrokes. All three doubles matches were hard fought battles and exciting to watch. I am very proud of this team for working so hard and improving their skills every day.”
Staples-Motley’s Haley Cichos-Jenna Dvorak battled for the win at No. 1 doubles going 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Afton Crocker-Morgan Lueck of Pequot Lakes.
