The Pequot Lakes Patriots tennis team successfully switched around its lineup in a 6-1 Mid-State Conference victory over Crosby-Ironton on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The biggest changes were Alex Nelson moving into the No. 1 singles position and the top two singles players, Haley Wiebolt and Sydney Holt, becoming No. 1 doubles partners. The move worked as both triumphed to help the Patriots improve to 4-0 in the conference.

"Alex (Nelson) did a nice job at one singles, and Haley and Sydney played well at one doubles," said Pequot Lakes coach Monica Sergent. "It was fun to be creative with the lineup and get a conference win as well."

Lauren Bengtson, who also triumphed at No. 2 singles, and Holt both have 23-1 records while Wiebolt is 21-4 and Nelson 18-5.

Pequot Lakes, 15-3 overall, was scheduled to play at Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and then host Aitkin on Thursday, Oct. 1, and Park Rapids in the regular season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

"Beating C-I was an important conference win, and also important for the coming section seeding," Sergent said. "It's also good that we are finishing our regular season with tough matches against Aitkin and Park Rapids because that will help keep us sharp as we head into postseason play."
