Softball: Tigers eliminated by Hill City/Northland

Hill City/Northland 11, PRB 9

The Pine River-Backus Tigers fell just short of going to the section bracket as they lost 11-9 to the Hill City/Northland Storm Friday, June 4.

Jamie Johnson took the loss pitching all seven innings, striking out four batters, walking eight, and allowing 11 hits. The Tigers had a 9-8 lead as they took the field going into the bottom of the seventh when the first batter for Northland got on by a walk, the second batter hit a double, and the third batter smashed it out of the ballpark to give Northland the win.

The Tigers were led at bat by Rylee Norman who went 2-4 with a triple and a double, and two RBIs. With one double each were Danielle Burgoyne, Johnson, Ramsey Tulenchik, Neveah Middendorf, and Tori Koering.

The Tigers end their season 12-12.

PR-B 14, W-H-A 11

Johnson pitched nine innings striking out seven batters, walking five, and allowing 10 hits as the Tigers narrowly defeated the Wolves 14-11 Friday, June 4.

At the end of the regulation seven innings the game was tied 11-11, and the Tigers held off the Wolves for the next two innings while they scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take the win.

The Tigers totaled 16 hits and were led at bat by Ramsey Tulenchik who went 3-6 including a double, a triple, and five RBIs.

Sebeka 14, PR-B 4

The Tigers managed to come back from an early deficit 1-4 to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the third inning, but then proceeded to give up 10 runs in the next two and a half innings to lose to Sebeka 14-4 in five innings.

Johnson took the loss, striking out six, walking 12, and allowing just five hits. The Tigers outhit the Trojans with 13 hits but struggled to bring runners home as they stranded 11. Annabelle Knapp led the Tigers going 4-4 with one RBI.

PR-B 12, Nevis 2

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead 6-1 in the first inning and added to their score almost every inning after, defeating the Nevis Tigers 12-2 in five innings in the first subsection playoff game Tuesday, June 1.

Johnson took the win, striking out four, and allowing five hits. The Tigers finished with four hits as well, were walked seven times and had 10 stolen bases. Norman led the Tigers at bat going 2-3 with four RBIs.
