Softball: Patriots pound Panthers

Morgan Eckes pitched a Game One victory and that jacked a three-run, first-inning homer in Game Two to help the Pequot Lakes Patriots to an 8-4, 17-3 Mid-State Conference sweep of Park Rapids Monday, May 3.

In Game One, Eckes struck out five and allowed four runs, three earned on seven hits.

Kaitlyn Geschwill finished 3-4 with a triple, run and two RBIs and Taylor Sherack was 2-4 with a double, run and an RBI. Afton Crocker and Brea Eckes each doubled for Pequot

Geschwill pitched the Game Two win. She struck out eight and didn’t walk anyone.

Morgan Eckes finished 3-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs. Crocker drove in four runs with two hits and Geschwill, Maya Orvis, Sherack, Maci Martini, Rita Ganley and Catherine Ganley all had two hits for the Patriots.

Morgan Eckes finished with 18 total strikeouts, but the Patriots suffered three losses Saturday, May 1, at the Becker tournament.

Pequot opened with a 7-1 loss to Becker. Maci Martini doubled and Kaitlyn Geschwill finished 2-4. Brea Eckes collected Pequot’s other hit.

Morgan Eckes pitched the loss. She struck out six Bulldogs, but a four-run first inning by Becker proved too much to overcome.

The Patriots allowed four runs in the first inning of a 12-8 loss to Maple Lake in Game Two.

Morgan Eckes struck out 14 Rocori Spartans, but Pequot fell 5-1.

Martini drove in Madison Lucas for Pequot’s lone run.

Pequot roasts Rebels

Morgan Eckes hit a first-inning grand slam for the Pequot Lakes Patriots in their 9-1 win over the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders Friday, April 30.

She also pitched seven innings, allowed two hits, struck out 14 and walked two in the win.

Kaitlyn Geschwill tallied two hits and Maya Orvis belted a triple for Pequot.
