Senior pitcher Taya Salminen of the the Pequot Lakes Patriot softball team was named the team's most valuable player at the team's year-end banquet on Tuesday, June 6.
Salminen had a 7-5 record on the mound, pitching 70.2 innings while allowing 117 hits with only 16 walks and 43 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.36.
"She did a great job for us this year," coach Bret Sergent said. "When she's in the circle, you know she is going to throw strikes, which is big."
Thirteen Patriots lettered this year, with junior Alex Kotaska lettering for the third time.
Second-year letterwinners were Clare Ganley, Cassandra Haman, Bre Sewall, Karlie Trottier and Taylor Finley-Olson.

Trottier, who had a team-high .463 batting average, was named the most improved player. Kotaska was awarded the Patriot Award and Rickard earned the Golden Glove Award for committing just six errors in 147 chances at first base.
Trottier was also named to the All-Section 6-2A team with 26 runs scored and 23 RBIs.
"We were a real young team, but the girls had fun together," Sergent said. "Everybody supported each other and we got great support from the parents at home and away."
The Patriots finished the season with a record of 12-10.
