Registration is under way for the 17th annual Sour Grapes Race at the Northland Arboretum June 8-9.
The traditional Saturday morning races will include the 10K walk/run and the half marathon.
This year the event will expand to include Friday, June 8, when a kids one-half mile run, kids 1-mile run and the 5K community walk/run, which has been named the "Sweet Grapes" Race, will be conducted.
Early registration ends June 1.
"The last several years, more than 80 percent of Sour Grapes Race participants have been from outside the Brainerd Lakes area," Lou Anderson said in a news release. "By moving the kid's races to Friday night, we hope more families will participate.
"The course has a reputation for being very challenging. We wanted to add a shorter, more relaxed race to the lineup to encourage locals to get active together, have fun, and support the arb."
The 5K walk course will traverse the scenic and challenging terrain on arboretum trails. The course will be a loop, finishing at the start point. The terrain course will include uneven ground, sandy soil and moderately challenging hills. There will be water stops along the way.
"We would love to see local businesses, groups of friends, and clubs challenge themselves and sign up together," Vicki Foss, executive director of the arboretum said in the news release.
Registration can be done online at www.sourgrapesrun.com or at the Northland Arboretum Visitor Center.
