PINE RIVER – The Pine River-Backus Tigers took the lead late and defeated Hill City/Northland Storm 7-6 on Friday, May 13.
The game was tied at six with the Tigers batting in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run for the Tigers to take the lead, and Aaliyah Lewis shut down the Storm offense in the bottom of the inning striking out the final batter to strand the tying run in scoring position.
Lewis led the Pine River-Backus Tigers Varsity to victory in the pitcher's circle. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out 12.
Leading the Tigers at bat were Chloe Beavers who went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Ramsey Tulenchik and Lewis both aided with doubles. “
I feel extremely proud of our last win.” Tulenchik said. “We came together and showed ourselves and everyone that we can be a good team when we all put everything together. As a team, I feel this is a building year and we can improve on everything possible. Experience is going to be huge for us due to being such a young team. Once we can get everything figured out I know we have the potential to be a great team.”

Tigers 13, Laporte 3
The Tigers notched six runs in the second inning to defeat the Laporte Wildcats 13-3 in a conference doubleheader Tuesday, May 10. Batters contributing to the big inning included Sawyer Tulenchik, Ramsey Tulenchik, Ariana Burns, and Tori Koering, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Lewis got the win for the Tigers in the circle going six innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out 11.
The Tigers totaled 11 hits including Burns, Kaitlyn Rilea, Koering, and Caylei Johnson all getting multiple hits. Burns led PR-B with three hits in four at-bats.
Tigers 14, Laporte 1
The game was tied 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers scored 13 runs off 10 hits to take the definitive lead, and then held the Wildcats to no runs in the bottom of the inning to win the second game of the doubleheader.
Ramsey Tulenchik led the Tigers at bat going 2-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Johnson aided with three singles in four at bats.
Abby Gilbert took the win as pitcher going five innings, giving up just one run, allowing two hits, and striking out four.
