PINE RIVER — The Pine River-Backus Tigers fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 18-2 loss to Pequot Lakes Patriots on Monday, May 16.

The Patriots started right away in the first inning as they scored on a walk by Taylor Sherack. The Patriots added another five runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Morgan Eckes was the winning pitcher for the Patriots. The hurler surrendered two runs on two hits over four innings, striking out ten.

Aaliyah Lewis took the loss for the Tigers. Lewis surrendered 18 runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out two. Lewis also had one of the two hits for the Tigers and one RBI as she batted in Kate Rilea in the bottom of the fourth to score the second of the Tigers two runs. Debren Popkes had the only other hit for the Tigers.

The Patriots totaled nine hits in the game. Maci Martini and Eckes both had multiple hits for Pequot Lakes Patriots Varsity. Martini led with three hits in three at bats while Eckes went 2-4 including a homerun and four RBIs.

Pequot loses first two

FRAZEE — Despite a combined 25 strikeouts from their pitchers, the Pequot Lakes Patriots suffered their first two losses of the season Saturday, May 14, 2-1 to Frazee and 5-3 to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

In Game One, Eckes struck out 10, walked two and allowed one earned run on five hits.

Kaitlyn Geschwill went 3-3 with a run and two stolen bases and Kelsi Martini doubled for Pequot’s offense.

In Game Two, Geschwill struck out 15, walked two and allowed two earned runs on 10 hits.


Pequot finished the two games with an uncharacteristic six errors.

Geschwill tripled, Eckes doubled and Martini was 2-3 with a run.

ROYALTON — Geschweill continues to be in the zone and hit the zone as she struck out 16, walked one and allowed just two hits in a 4-0 Pequot Lakes victory over Royalton Friday, May 13.

Eckes went 2-4 with a two-run home run and Quinn Trottier was 2-3 with an RBI as Pequot improved to 13-0.

Patriots sweep C-I

PEQUOT LAKES — Kelsi Martini drove in seven runs across two games as the Pequot Lakes Patriots swept the Crosby-Ironton Rangers in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader 16-0 and 11-0 Tuesday, May 10.

Eckes got the win in Game One as she went four innings and struck out six while giving up a hit and a walk.

Geschwill went 5-6 for the Patriots over the two games and also picked up the win on the mound in Game Two as she pitched five innings, striking out five while allowing one hit.

Maya Orvis finished 3-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a double while Abi Martin tallied two hits in Game Two.
