Softball: Eckes, Geschwill MVPs for Patriots

PEQUOT LAKES — In its season-end banquet, the Pequot Lakes Patriot softball team gave top honors to its two ace pitchers, as Morgan Eckes and Kaitlyn Geschwill were co-recipients of the team’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Additionally, Eckes was recognized for having the team’s best batting average, hitting .404 on the season.

Geschwill, along with infielder Maci Martini, was a “Golden Glove” winner for the team, recognized for fielding prowess.

The Patriot Award was given to Maya Orvis and Lauren Schultz, while Kelsi Martini earned “most improved” honors.

Morgan Eckes, Geschwill, Orvis, Brea Eckes, Maci Martini, Abi Martin and Kelsi Martini were named to the all-Mid-State Conference. Geschwill, Morgan Eckes and Kelsi Martini also earned all-section honors.

Orvis and Taylor Sherack were named to the Academic All-State team, and the whole team earned an Academic Gold award for having an average GPA of 3.67.
