CROSBY – The Pine River-Backus Tigers softball team got off to an early lead 3-2 after the first inning in their season opener against the Crosby-Ironton Rangers on Thursday, April 21, but weren’t able to hold on to the lead as the Rangers started hitting in the gaps to take the win by a score of 11-7.

Aaliyah Lewis took the loss for Pine River-Backus Tigers. The pitcher allowed nine hits and ten runs over six innings, striking out five.

Debren Popkes led the Tigers with three hits in four at-bats. The Tigers stole seven bases during the game as Popkes led the way with three.

The Tigers were out-hit 6-9.
