Pequot Lakes junior Josie Harguth advanced to state with a score of 9.4 on the balance beam for the Brainerd Warrior gymnastics team at the Section 8-2A meet Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Cloud Tech High School. Harguth’s teammate Breena Deason finished first on beam.
“We started on the beam as our first event and to see Brenna and Josie go one and two was really cool,” Brainerd head coach Jessica Larson said. “Starting on beam can be very nerve-wracking, but they handled it well. We always prided ourselves on beam this year and it’s been our core group of kids on that beam, so it’s cool as a coach to see us at the top there.”
Harguth also qualified for the Class 2A state last season and finished 29th for the Warriors.
Brainerd finished third in team competition behind Bemidji and St. Cloud Tech at the section meet.
