PEQUOT LAKES — The Patriot football team picked up an early lead and never looked back as they trounced the Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin Titans 56-14 in the opening round of the Section 7AAA playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

"I thought we played really well," head coach Bill Magnuson said. "Even in the first quarter, things clicked. They played some man-to-man defense and took away some passing lanes, but for the run game, some big holes opened up."

The Patriots — with many of the same athletes from 2021 — bounced back from a one-win season and a first-round exit. They are now 7-2 and hosting their second playoff game.

"It means everything to these guys," Magnuson said. "They took their lumps last year, but they fought and kept fighting, and they gained some valuable experience."

The Patriots will host Aitkin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.
