PINE RIVER — The second-seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers trailed just 8-6 at halftime before being outscored 19-0 in the second half and falling to the No. 3 Ottertail Central Bulldogs in the Section 6-1A football semifinals Saturday, Oct. 29.

“(OTC) scored on three big pass plays, one on the first play of the second half,” said PR-B coach Tom Demars. “We weren't able to overcome their big plays in a game where points are hard to come by. (OTC) has a good rushing game, and they were able to grind out first downs and maintain long drives a couple times as well. We were able to put together a couple drives, but weren't able to come up with a big play when we needed it.”

The Tigers’ Irvin Tulenchik threw for 172 yards and added a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Tulenchik is one of 12 seniors on the PR-B roster.

“Irvin has led the offense for three years,” Demars said. “He was always doing whatever it takes for us to be successful - sometimes running, sometimes passing, but usually some combination of both. He was among the 12 seniors who finished their careers Saturday. We will really miss those guys. They poured their hearts into this game, and led us to many victories the past few years.”

The Tigers have compiled an admirable 15-5 record over the last two seasons, including finishing 7-3 overall this year.

“Our goal was to still be playing at this time, but we were able to put together another good season and win some competitive games that went down to the final possession,” Demars said. “I will remember those games more than anything, our players and coaches can certainly be proud of our season.”

Rian Struss caught eight passes for 69 receiving yards for the Tigers. Mason Dalluge hauled in three touchdown passes from Jack Mekalson to lead the Bulldogs.
