Area Boys Golf: Senior Seeling leads Patriots to state
Three area teams competed in the Section 6-2A final
SARTELL — Tyler Seeling didn’t win the individual battle, but he won the war as he led the Pequot Lakes Patriots to the Section 6-2A Team title and a trip to the Class 2A State Tournament.
Seeling fired a second-round 74 Tuesday, June 7, for a two-day 149, which was one stroke away from an individual title won by Kimball’s Luke Ashbrook.
But Seeling’s 149 at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club along with Cooper Johnson’s 7th-place 160, Anthony Armstrong’s 14th-place 165 and 170s from Michael Oseland and Tollef Birkeland helped the Patriots to a one-shot victory over St. Cloud Cathedral.
Three birdies, including back-to-back birds on holes 8 and 9 helped Seeling improve upon his opening round 75. She shot matching 37s for both nines. Pequot’s Logan Fogarty was the only other Patriot to improve on their opening round score.
Staples-Motley’s Carter White fired a Day Two 81 for a two-day 158 that placed him fifth individually to advance to state. The freshmen led the Cardinals team to fourth place with a 665. Grant Bestland finished ninth with a 161 and Peyton Mithun was 13th at 164.
Pierz’s Logan Herold was one stroke shy of advancing as an individual. The top team and the top five individuals not on that team advance to state. Herold shot a 79 Tuesday for a two-day 160, which placed tied him for seventh overall and sixth among none Pequot players.
