Reid Pierzinski placed fourth for Pequot Lakes with a 17 minutes, 54 seconds while teammate Tony Fitzer was fifth in 18:00 at the Mid-State Conference meet on Monday, Oct. 12, in Long Prairie. The two Patriots earned all-conference honors for top 10 finishes.
The Pequot Lakes boys had 57 points to finish second behind Detroit Lakes' 23 points.
"Reid and Tony have been performing very well, and have been within 10 seconds of each other the last three meets," said Pequot Lakes coach Jeff Brever. "It is fun to watch two athletes compete every meet, and be exhausted when they cross the finish line."
In the girls' race, Pequot Lakes finished third with 96 points. They trailed Park Rapids with 41 and Detroit Lakes with 42. The Patriots' Jannah Hall was eighth in 21:43 to earn all-conference while teammate Grace McGuire just missed the honor by placing 11th in 22:00.
"Jannah has been on the heels of Grace the last few meets, and finally captured our number one spot," Brever said. "Jannah is continuing to improve and push others on the team, and Grace will bounce back. Grace has come a long way for her first year in cross country and has a competitive spirit."
The Patriots are scheduled to run at the Birch Tree Conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Menahga.
"In the last two meets our boys were able to see that they can compete with bigger schools. The hunger continues to grow within the boys' program," Brever said. "The girls have been trying to piece together full teams the last few meets due to injuries. With a little over two weeks left until the postseason, we are healing and providing opportunities for other runners to perform and take over scoring roles."
