Two free PIckleball clinics will be offered at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Hackensack Community Center.
Merlin and Ellen Dressel, who regularly demonstrate the sport and teach the rules in Walker, will lead the 90-minute clinics. Water and snacks will be provided. Participants are asked to carry in a pair of comfortable walking or athletic shoes.
"The free demonstrations also serve as the grand opening of the Hackensack Pickleball Club," said Sue Buche, who has arranged for pickleball games to be played Tuesdays and Thursdays at the community center. "It's a fun, new activity for everyone in the Hackensack area to enjoy. We want to thank the American Legion Post 202 and Hackensack Lions Club for their donations to help us buy the equipment."
A grant from the USA Pickleball Association was also received to pay for the netting systems, Buche said.
Pickleball is played on a badminton court with a low net, paddles and a whiffle-style ball. It's easy to learn and is enjoyed by people of all ages.
