Pequot swimmers compete at YMCA swim meet

The Dolphin YMCA swim team completed another successful year. Pequot Lakes students that contributed to that success are Owen Gitchell, Hailey Millner, Eloise Gitchell, Lilix Gustafson, Brook Hennies and Shelby Balmer.

The Dolphin YMCA swim team completed another successful year. Pequot Lakes students that contributed to that success are Owen Gitchell, Hailey Millner, Eloise Gitchell, Lilix Gustafson, Brook Hennies and Shelby Balmer.

The section meet was hosted by Duluth Northern YMCA on Saturday, Feb. 4. Gitchell swam the Boys 12U 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 14U 200 freestyle relay placing second with a time of 2:37.55.

Gustafson swam in Girls 12U 200 medley relay, 100 Individual medley, 50 breaststroke , and 400 freestyle relay placing fourth with a time of 5:07.83.

Gitchell swam Girls 15-and-over in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay placing third, 200 breaststroke, and 100 breaststroke. Swimmers that placed in the top three continued on to represent the team at the state meet.

At the state meet hosted at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center on Sunday, Feb. 19, Hennies swam Girls 10U 100 Individual medley placing tenth with a time of 1:29.50 , 50 backstroke with a time of 39.31 placing eighth, and 50 breaststroke 45.57 placing eighth.

Balmer swam Girls 10U 50 freestyle placing fourth with a time of 30.19, 50 backstroke placing fourth place with a time of 36.94 and 100 freestyle placing first place with a time of 1:07.68 and broke the Dolphin record. Both Balmer and Hennies represented the Dolphins on the Girls 10U 200 medley relay placing second with a time of 2:31.0 and 200 freestyle relay placing second with a time of 2:11.84.

Gitchell swam on the Boys 14U 200 freestyle relay placing fourth.

Gustafson swam the Girls 12U 400 freestyle relay placing ninth with a time of 5:08.31.

Miller completed her senior year swimming Girls 15-and-over 200 medley relay placing second with a time of 2:05.23, 50 freestyle placing 14th with a time of 30.59, 100 backstroke placing ninth with a time of 1:18.01, 100 freestyle placing thirteenth with a time 1:06.33 and 400 freestyle relay placing third with a time of 4:20.28. The Brainerd Dolphin YMCA Swim Team was the defending state champion for 2017.
