Cooper Johnson of Pequot Lakes placed 27th in the nation with a two-round total of 196 Sunday, July 11, at the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship in Mason, Michigan.
Johnson posted rounds of 100 and 96 to finish one shot out of the top 10 and four shots off the title, which was claimed by Landon Sievers of Calhoun High School in Illinois.
Johnson was just one of eight contestants to score a 100 in the qualifying round.
Johnson’s teammates Mitchell Morrison (324th place, 185 score), Ethan Weik (350th place, 184 score) and Annika Wiczek (398th place, 174 score) also competed.
Pequot Lakes finished 84th with a team score of 441. Their top five scores were 96-88-87-86 and 84.

There were 36 Minnesota teams and 160 total teams competing.
Roseau rostered the top Minnesota team as it finished third with a two-day total of 963. Roseau scored 477 and 486 round scores. Calhoun High School out of Illinois won the national title with a two-day 969.
