The Pequot Lakes Patriots baseball downed the Upsala-Swanville Patriots 7-1 on Thursday, April 14, behind the the hitting of Anthony Tizzano and Jared Sewall and the pitching of Ethan Lehman and Chad Christianson.

Tizzano went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI and a run while Sewall went 3-4 with three doubles and two runs.

On the mound, Lehman picked up the win while pitching five innings, striking out four, allowing four hits and allowing one run. Offensively, he singled and drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk.

The Patriots scored twice in the third inning behind a double by Sewall, who then stole third base. After a Christianson walk, Tizzano ripped a two-run double up the alley in left-center field.

The Patriots earned two more runs in the fifth. Christianson was hit by a pitch and Tizzano hit his second double to drive him in. Lehman followed that with a single to drive Tizzano in and make make it 4-0. The Patriots added three more insurance runs in the sixth.

Lehman was aided by his defense throughout the game, including a diving catch and double play first baseman Kody Kettleson.

"We didn't do too bad for it being our first game of the season," coach Jon Kotaska said. "We played errorless ball to back up our pitchers. We had a lot of base runners because of all the walks. It was nice to see Anthony (Tizzano) and Jared (Sewall) really hit the ball."

Also on Thursday, April 14, the Pequot Lakes junior varsity team beat Upsala-Swanville 15-3.

Pequot Lakes is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Pine River-Backus starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 22.
