Patriots to open fall season at Pierz

The Pequot Lakes girls' tennis team will open the Patriots' fall sports season playing in a meet against the Pierz Pioneers and Little Falls Flyers at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, in Pierz.

The Pequot Lakes girls' tennis team will open the Patriots' fall sports season playing in a meet against the Pierz Pioneers and Little Falls Flyers at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, in Pierz.

Pequot Lakes finished 15-5 overall last season after losing to Park Rapids 4-3 in the section 8A semifinals. The Patriots also won the Brainerd Moose tournament and tied for second place in the Mid-State Conference.

Pequot Lakes opens its home schedule on Saturday, Aug. 16, against Hutchinson, Lakeville South and Osakis at 9 a.m.

The Patriots return seven letterwinners, including junior Haley Wiebolt, who posted a 22-9 record at No. 1 singles to earn team MVP in 2013. Wiebolt also has 97 career victories in four varsity seasons.
