Patriots struggle to end regular season

The Pequot Lakes Patriots boys' basketball wrapped up the regular season with a 58-46 loss to the Minnewaska Lakers on Saturday, Feb. 21, in Glenwood.

The Pequot Lakes Patriots boys' basketball wrapped up the regular season with a 58-46 loss to the Minnewaska Lakers on Saturday, Feb. 21, in Glenwood.

It was the sixth straight loss for the Patriots, 11-14 overall and seeded third for the North Subsection 8AA playoffs. Pequot Lakes is scheduled to open the North Subsection 8AA quarterfinals hosting No. 6 Badger-Greenbush-Middle River at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Hunter Larson and Connor Davich netted 12 points apiece for Pequot Lakes.

Andrew Israelson scored 25 points and the Cardinals made 10 3-point baskets in a Mid-State Conference win at the Pequot Lakes Athletic Center on Friday, Feb. 20.

Brandon Hehir had a career-high 18 points and Jack Kreitz added 15 for the Patriots, who finish 4-6 in the Mid-State Conference. The Cardinals end 6-4 in conference action.

Blake Connell added 15 points, John Lund scored 14, Zack Hofmann 11 and Nathan Schimpp 10 for the Cardinals, who sweep Pequot Lakes this season.

S-M assumed a 10-2 lead early as three of their first four baskets were 3-pointers. They would add four more 3-points in the first half for a comfortable 44-27 advantage. The Patriots rallied with 41 points in the second half, but they had dug too deep of a hole.

Pequot Lakes did reduce the deficit to 73-63 in the final minute after a pair of 3-pointers by Hehir. Then Connor Davich connected on a 3-pointer to make it 76-68 before the Patriots ran out of time.
