Patriots' JV girls win twice

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity girls' basketball team defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 42-25 on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and topped Staples-Motley 58-32 on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Against W-DC, Kristin Skog, Mallory Goerges and Elsa Headlee each had six points while Molly Dotty added five.

Against S-M, the Patriots led 27-10 at the half and were led in scoring by Karli Skog with 12 points, Kristin Skog 10, Jessica Faacks eighth, Bre Sewall and Maggie Miska seven each, Oliva Lane six, and Molly Dotty and Kayla Geike four each.

The Pequot Lakes' C-team led Staples-Motley 29-18 at the half on way to a 57-39 victory. Sewall led the Patriots with 15 points, Sannah Lohmiller and Mallory Goerges each had 10, Quinn Kratochvil nine and Molly Dotty seven.

Pequot Lakes also beat W-DC by building a 17-12 first-half lead. The highlight of the half was exchange student Kristyna Vorlova scoring her first points on a free throw.

Patriots' JV boys top PR-B

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity boys' basketball team defeated Pine River-Backus 57-28 on Monday, Feb. 2. Cody Huss led the Patriots with 14 points while Nathan Traut had seven and Noah Borleis six.

The JV team defeated Roseau 50-9 on Friday, Feb. 6, after leading 33-3 at the half. Austin Young led the Patriots with 15 points while Huss had nine and Traut six. The JV downed Crookston 36-24 on Saturday, Feb. 7, after leading 17-12 at intermission. Huss led the Patriots with 11 points while Young and Andy Voges with six each and Michael Pluimer five.

"The boys played well in winning three games," coach Alex Kunesh said. "We played our best defense of the year against Roseau."

The Pequot Lakes C-team beat Roseau 58-54 after leading 37-30 at the half. Chase Larson led the Patriots with 17 points, Zach Senst added 11, Adam Casanova 10, Sam Scheuss seven, Blake Lane six, Tyler Manley five and Kade Kitzman two.

The C-team beat W-DC 71-32 after leading 31-22 at the half. Zenst led the Patriots with 14 points, Lane and Jack White with 12 each, Manley 11, Scheuss eight, Larson six and Casanova five.

PL's 8th grade boys split

The Pequot Lakes eighth-grade boys' basketball team split with Aitkin on Tuesday Feb. 3, as the red team won 63-11 and the white team lost 12-10.

In the red game, the Patriots were led in scoring by Owen Seidl with 14 points, Marcus Klein and Dylin Ackerman with 11 each, Austin Meister and Jordan Schommer six each, Alex Trees five, Sean Ryan and Sam Pfeiffer four each, and Aaron Washburn two.

In the white game, the Patriots' leading scorer was Aaron Washburn with six points while Joe

Keiffer and Vincent Miska each had two.

PL's 7th grade now 5-5

The Pequot Lakes seventh-grade boys' basketball team evened its record at 5-5 with a 51-22 victory over Aitkin on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The game was tied 6-6 early before the Patriots took off and built a 28-11 lead at halftime.Aitkin kept fighting back, but never caught up. Pequot Lakes was led in scoring by Carter Embree with 10 points and Grant Kotaska with eight.
