District 9 - Brainerd area
CO Jim Guida (Brainerd East) patrolled area station lakes for panfish angling activity. New 2020 angling licenses were checked and compliance was great. Guida stopped two young males for careless operation of an all-terrain vehicle and operating a snowmobile with expired registration. The sled was observed jumping road ditches and the ATV was observed riding a wheelie down the county road. Both machines had been purchased last year and the registrations were not transferred within 15 days as the law requires. Enforcement action was taken.
CO Amber Ladd (McGregor) worked area lakes and snowmobiles. The mild weather brought several anglers out looking for panfish as well as some folks enjoying the last riding of the season. Anglers were reminded to remove all items from the ice when they leave. Enforcement action was taken for recreational trespass, extra lines, unattended lines, fish house shelter license violations, and speeding.
CO Patrick McGowan (Pine River) patrolled for snowmobile and angling activities throughout the past week. He also worked a detail on Lake of the Woods. Enforcement action was taken for numerous angling and narcotics violations.
CO Eric Sullivan (Pequot Lakes) worked area angling activity, ATV trail use and hunting activity. Sullivan checked anglers, who reported some success with sunfish and crappies. ATV riders were contacted and education was provided about snowmobile trail restrictions. Sullivan contacted one hunting group that harvested a deer out of season. During the investigation, several items of evidence and property were seized.
CO Bob Mlynar (Aitkin) worked angling activity and checked lakes for shelter removal.
CO Chelsey Best (Crosslake) took enforcement action this past week for expired registrations, feeding deer in the CWD zone, and shelters left out after the deadline.
