District 9 - Brainerd area
CO Jim Guida (Brainerd East) worked big-game and migratory waterfowl-hunting enforcement this past week. Guida investigated a complaint of illegal deer feeding and baiting. The bait was located and the investigation is ongoing. Guida also assisted with Division training at Camp Ripley.
CO Tim Collette (Brainerd West) checked fall anglers having some success with nice walleyes while waterfowl hunters report few ducks in the bag. A TIP call of a poached deer was investigated, summer equipment was put away and time was spent at boat landings monitoring lake service providers removing docks and boat lifts.
CO Scott Fitzgerald (CCSRA) reports checking for small- and big-game hunters throughout the past week and weekend. Time was also spent checking for waterfowl hunters and monitoring ATV activity. Fitzgerald assisted with some Division training at Camp Ripley and fielded many outdoor law-related questions. Patrol was done in the CCSRA for park violations and also for state park vehicle permits. Assistance was also given to a local agency on a search.
CO Bob Mlynar (Aitkin) worked waterfowl-, archery deer- and grouse-hunting activity. He helped with a fish meal for nursing home residents and assisted the sheriff’s office in the search for a missing person.
CO Eric Sullivan (Pequot Lakes) responded to a report of a capsized watercraft with four people and a dog in the water. All duck hunters were wearing life jackets and made it to shore safely to receive medical attention. Sullivan also worked fishing, small-game, big-game and ATV activity.
CO Patrick McGowan (Pine River) worked waterfowl hunters in Crow Wing and Cass counties. Hunters reported decent waterfowl hunting over the weekend after the recent cold snap. Enforcement action was taken for numerous waterfowl and angling violations.
CO Amber Ladd (McGregor) and COC Calie Kunst worked multiple possible deer-baiting cases. Many bear baits were also checked along with some waterfowl hunters. Contact was made with ATV riders who were found to be drinking underage and burning prohibited materials.
CO Karl Hadrits (Crosby) reports activity this past week of investigating complaints of deer baiting, shining, and trespassing, and checking waterfowl- and deer-hunting activity. Enforcement contacts were made for possession of toxic shot and no stamps or licenses in possession.
