Northland Outdoors Forecast: Quiet fall weekend after a cold close to the work week

The cold airmass of high pressure will slowly drift to the south leaving most of the region dry with moderating temperatures for Saturday and Sunday.

We are part of The Trust Project.

The cold air will be sitting right over us Friday. Even though it will be quite chilly, there won't be as much wind as we had across the area Thursday. Winds actually look to stay fairly light and with the combination of more sun than clouds will make for a manageable day.

Temperatures Saturday morning won't be as cold as what we woke up to Friday morning. We'll kick off the day in the lower 30s for a large portion of the Red River Valley and into northern Minnesota. Other areas will be a touch warmer.

I'm seeing a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday with a slight breeze in the afternoon out of the west. Our temperatures will moderate some and it won't be quite as chilly as Friday. Overall, Saturday is shaping up to be a quiet fall day.

Model guidance has hinted at a few weak showers passing by late Saturday night into Sunday. I'm leaning toward most of the area staying dry all weekend long, but a few sprinkles and showers can't be ruled out for parts of the Red River Valley and central Minnesota Sunday.

Besides the slight chance of sprinkles or a passing shower, most of Sunday will stay relatively quiet in terms of fall weather as well. Highs will range from mid and upper 50s across the north to some of us into the mid and upper 60s. Winds will stay fairly light Sunday.

I grew up in Minnesota and my love of the outdoors lead me on a path to becoming in meteorologist. I got my Bachelor of Science in meteorology at St. Cloud State University. I started out my career as a TV meteorologist in Bismarck at KX News in 2010. I left Bismarck for Fargo in the fall of 2015 where I've been since working for WDAY as well as The Forum.
